Reckless driver arrested after short pursuit in Hollister
A reckless driver led police on a short pursuit through Hollister Friday.
According to the Hollister Police Department, officers received reports that a white Dodge sedan was swerving, running red lights, and heading towards Airline Highway around 5 p.m.
Sgt. Ray Celano spotted the Dodge near the intersection of San Benito Street at Park Street.
“Sgt. Celano attempted to make a traffic stop. However, the driver of the white Dodge sedan failed to yield and fled the area,” said HPD.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Cody Giovanni Leyva of Hollister, led Sgt. Celano on a pursuit for several blocks until he finally stopped.
Leyva was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and evading police in a car. He was taken to San Benito County Jail and booked for the listed charges.
“The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the community members for being vigilant and proactive in reporting the reckless vehicle. The police department is grateful a dangerous driver was taken off the streets with no one injured. Residents calling in and advising of dangerous situations is imperative to create a safe community,” said HPD staff.
