Monterey County Sheriff’s Office rolls out new technology to catch thieves

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has new hardware to track stolen equipment.

The new technology called “SmartWater” has been installed at the Monterey County Jail. “SmartWater” is a forensic spray system, which is an anti-burglary device.

“If suspects enter a commercial building with the intent to burglarize it, and it is equipped with the SmartWater Spray System, they are unknowingly sprayed,” said Monterey County Sheriff’s.

The spray can later be detected by the SmartWater light which would show a bright green color.

“SmartWater also offers a Forensic Coding Solution to mark property. This will come in handy for the many agriculture companies in Monterey County and assist our Ag Crime Detectives in solving crimes.”

Each spray can be traced back to the specific property stolen or building entered.
