Memorial Day travel nearing record numbers

People are traveling in record numbers this Memorial Day, and while the worst travel days may be behind us, the weekend’s not over yet.

Triple A reports that nearly 4.2 million Americans are expected to be traveling by planes, trains and automobiles. That’s nearly 5% more than last year and the most in more than a dozen years.

Around 37 million of those travelers will be on the roads. Although Triple A says that the most trafficked days, Thursday and Friday, are behind us, today is likely the day that everyone will be heading home.

And if you’re driving home on this holiday, expect to pay more at the pump. Memorial Day gas prices are at their highest since 2014. It’s up by around 33 cents.

If you’re in the San Francisco area this weekend, expect more traffic. It’s listed as one of the busiest cities.
