BALTIMORE (WBAL) — The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center is celebrating a big win thanks to Baltimore Ravens Hall of Famer Ray Lewis.
Lewis delivered a check for $134,000 from his winnings for coming in second on a TV competition show.
Officials at the children’s center said the money will immediately be put to use to better serve the medical needs of children.
“Here at Johns Hopkins Children’s center, we’re the only Level I trauma center and the only burn center for the entire state of Maryland, and we receive kids from the entire region with burns and traumas. And, this generous gift goes toward those burn and trauma patients. As well, we’re setting up a pediatric command center that will let us coordinate the care of injured kids from the entire region, and really, the entire country,” said Dr. David Hackam, chief of pediatric surgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
Hackam said along with donations, these visits go a long way in helping the children recover from illness, saying Lewis inspires the children to push through the hard days.
