Man shoots himself after police respond to domestic violence

A Scotts Valley man is facing charges for felony domestic violence, assault and kidnapping among other charges.

Scotts Valley Police responded to a call about a domestic violence situation near the 100 block of Mt. Hermon Road at about 4 a.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, a woman tried to run away from the house and Ryan Schell was found inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

An investigation showed that the woman was being beaten and held against her will.

The woman has been released from the hospital, but Schell is still in critical condition and remains in a San Jose trauma center.
