Twin Lakes Beachfront project nearing completion

Parking lines are not drawn yet and a fence still surrounds the beach front project, but it is expected to be completed soon.

The area is open to pedestrians and bicyclists now, but cars cannot yet park there.

Business owners in the area tell KION it’s a sigh of relief knowing the project will be done soon. They say it has taken a toll on business since the construction started over a year ago.

KION spoke with some Santa Cruz residents who like the way it looks so far. “It’s gonna be better than what it was, they used to just park along the street and it was not a safe thing and this will be a lot safer so that’s good,” said Wayne Vanderlan.

Vanderlan said while there will be designated parking spaces, there still just isn’t enough parking in the area for the busy summer months.

“It’s gonna be better than what it was. They used to just park along the street and it was not a safe thing and this will be a lot safer so that’s good,” Jim Littlefield said. He added we will have to wait until the project is complete to see what impact it has.

Its completion date is set for sometime next week, but the two way road will not be open until late June.
