Seven hospitalized in head-on collision on SR 129
A three-car crash shut down SR 129 near School Road in San Juan Bautista, just before 5 p.m., Sunday.
The crash happened around 4:45 p.m.. CHP is reporting major injuries, and tells KION seven people were transported to the hospital. Four were sent to Natividad in Salinas, and another person was sent to Santa Clara County.
They say one of the vehicles, traveling east on SR-129 drifted into the westbound lane. A black SUV was able to largely swerve out of the way, but another westbound vehicle was struck head-on.
The suspected driver of the wrong-way vehicle was taken into custody and charged with DUI.
Traffic was blocked in both directions, but re-opened a couple hours after the accident.
There was also a separate driver at the scene, unrelated to the crash, being charged with a DUI.
