Boardwalk parking lot shooting victim ID’d, suspect arrested
UPDATE: 5/14/2018 1:26 p.m. A Vacaville teen shot and killed inside the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s main parking lot has been identified and his accused killer is behind bars.
19-year-old Issac Lopez was found shot in the torso in the parking lot on Second and Cliff Street around 6:41 p.m. Sunday.
18-year-old Javier Calvo of Vacaville is being charged with the shooting and killing of Lopez.
Investigators said Calvo and Lopez knew each other and had gone to Santa Cruz with friends.
According to Santa Cruz Police, both Calvo and Lopez were in a car with two others when the shooting occurred.
“While inside the car a pistol was discharged, striking the victim,” said Lt. Warren Barry.
After the gun went off someone in the car dialed 911.
Lopez was transported to Dominican Hospital where he died.
Lt. Barry said, “Currently investigators are following up on how Mr. Calvo came into the possession of the pistol, and who is the owner of the firearm.”
Calvo is being charged with involuntary manslaughter.
The cause of the shooting is still under investigation.

A Vacaville man was shot and killed inside the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk main parking lot, Sunday night.
Santa Cruz police and fire treated the victim, 19-year-old Isaac Ruben Lopez on the scene.
Lopez had been found shot with a gunshot wound to his torso in the parking lot at Second Street and Cliff Street around 6:41 p.m.
Lopez was eventually transported to Dominican Medical Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police were able to locate three people involved who were also from Vacaville. Officials also say they found the handgun along with additional ammunition.
The shooting is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Santa Cruz Police Detectives at 831-420-5800.

One person was shot inside the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk main parking lot, Sunday night.
Police tell KION it happened at around 7 p.m. and no weapon has been recovered at this time.
The male victim was transported to Dominican Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The boardwalk is still open.
