Inclusionary Housing Lottery set for Monday at Salinas City Hall
The City of Salinas will be holding a housing lottery. Nine lucky families will get the opportunity to buy a brand new house for under $200,000
There will be tears of joy and probably even just tears Monday evening, as only nine out of the 30 eligible low income, first-time home buyers will be given the path to home ownership.
“After a short staff presentation, the Mayor and other City Council members will begin the lottery,” said Community development Analyst, C.J. Valenzuela.
Those who live and work in Salinas have the best chances of buying their dream home for half the price.
“Those will be what they call two-point applications and their names will be drawn first. If a household does one or the other, if they just live in Salinas – but work outside the area, or just works in Salinas, but lives outside the city limits; then those will be one-point applications and be drawn second priority,” said Valenzuela.
The housing lottery will decide who can purchase the one single level home and eight two-story homes — all for less than 200-thousand dollars.
“There are two-floor plans that the inclusionary housing will be for. One is a three-bedroom, two-bath about 1500 square feet. That home market rate starts at $450,000, through our inclusionary program one of the lottery winners will have the opportunity to buy that at $182,000. The other house that is included in the lottery is a four bedroom, two bath home. That starts around $450,000 and the inclusionary price for that will be around $198,000,” said Valenzuela.
IMPORTANT: The application process for this Inclusionary Housing Program Lottery has closed. The drawing will be on Monday. If you want to know when the application process is for any future housing lotteries, then the Community Development Department at 65 Alisal in Salinas can put your name on a list and you would be notified.
