Man safely escapes truck fire in Salinas

A close call for a man in Salinas after his truck caught on fire.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, a sergeant saw smoke Tuesday and followed it to find a white pickup truck on fire.

The Sheriff’s Office said the owner of the truck made it out safely, but desperately wanted to grab his personal belongings from the smoke-filled truck moments before it burst into flames.

The man was not hurt and Salinas firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire.

The Sheriff’s Office said this is a reminder that personal belongings you leave behind are not worth risking your life. It’s a reminder to be cautious when dealing with situations like this. In the event of a car fire, pull over, get out, find a safe place and call 911.
