Good Old Days Celebration could have record crowd this year

If you and your family are looking for some weekend fun, you might want to consider the 61st annual Good Old Days Celebration in Downtown Pacific Grove.

With a flag on every corner, and a downtown that looks like the set of a classic movie, taking it back to the ‘Good Old Days’ is easy to do in Pacific Grove.

W”e expect to see anywhere from 35-40,000 people on both days, and could exceed those numbers this year because the weather is looking the finest since ive been here,” said Chamber of Commerce President, Moe Ammar.

Which is saying a lot since Chamber President Moe Ammar has been doing this for the past 25 years.

“It was three city block and now it’s nine city blocks,” said Ammar.

The Rotary Club parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday on Pine Avenue.

“We have approximately 100+ entries in the parade. Different bands, horses, music,” said Ammar.

That’s followed by the largest arts and crafts fair in the tri-county area, with more than 240 vendors from all over the country

“Those are very unique vendors that are here once a year,” said Ammar.

40 vendors will be dedicated to just food.

“Whatever appetite you have, they can satisfy it,” said Ammar.

And if you’re hungry for a little competition, that can also be satisfied this weekend.

“New is the pie eating contest and then we have a best looking mustache competition. And I don’t think i’m going to qualify” said Ammar.

“We’ve got guys with handlebar mustaches, curly mustaches, short mustaches. That is going to be on Saturday over at the monarch stage at 5pm, ” said Owner of Phill’s Barber Shop, Phillip Benson.

What makes a good mustache?

“It all depends. There’s a bunch of different mustaches out there and we are going to be looking for the biggest, baddest mustache out there. The bigger the better. We want to see what these guys can do,” said Benson.

Whether you want to participate in the activities or just sit back and listen to one of the several bands, it’s an event for the whole family to enjoy.

“Most importantly it’s free, unless you buy food or whatever. All the six stages are complimentary, everything is complimentary,” said Ammar.
