Hit-and-run suspect wanted for killing man in Watsonville

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV)-- The identity of a young man killed in a hit-and-run in Watsonville on May 5 has been identified.

The family of Victor Gonzalez, 24, told KION he was the man killed on the 1900 block of Main Street.

Watsonville Police said they are working to identify a suspect through surveillance video but have no leads.

Police said they have determined the suspect was driving a dark-colored sedan, not a white four-door sedan as originally told. The dark sedan will have front-end damage.

"Our preliminary investigation also indicates the 24-year-old man was struck as he incorrectly crossed six lanes of traffic," said police.

Watsonville Police said its traffic unit is investigating a deadly hit-and-run that killed a 24-year-old man from Watsonville Thursday night.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers arrived at the 1900 block of Main Street for reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. The victim was life-flighted to an out-of-county trauma center and passed away early Friday morning, according to police.

Witnesses said a white four-door sedan was seen driving away from the scene toward Highway 1.
