Trespassers disrupting harbor seals during pupping season

A volunteer found four people Friday behind the protective fence on a beach where harbor seals are currently pupping.

These pictures were posted on the Harbor Seals of Pacific Grove Facebook page. The group of four was apparently trying to collect abalone shells, which is a violation of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary rules.

Pacific Grove also has a city ordinance that protects harbor seals during pupping season. When the intruders were asked to leave, the volunteer says one flipped her off and used abusive language. She says once she called police they all left.

If you recognize any of these people, please call police at (831) 648-3143.
