PG Officer rescues baby opossums after mother dies

Five baby opossums were rescued in Pacific Grove after their mom was hit by a car.

Friday morning PG’s Animal Control Officer received a report of a dead opossum in the road on the 1400 block of Ocean View Blvd.

When she arrived to remove it from the roadway, she realized it was a mom opossum that had a pouch full of babies.

Having experience with similar incidents, the Officer was able to safely remove five baby opossums from the pouch.

They all appeared to be uninjured. SPCA for Monterey County Wildlife responded to pick up the opossums and will attempt to rehabilitate them so they can be released back into the wild.
