Man arrested after hurting two deputies during disturbance call in Prunedale

Two Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies were hurt and a man is behind bars after a disturbance call in Prunedale Tuesday.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said the deputies responded to an elderly woman’s call about her son acting aggressive on Moro Road. The woman said her son has mental health issues and she wasn’t sure if he was taking his prescribed medication.

Deputies said they believed they had a good relationship with the man as they had had contact with him the past and he has never been violent before. However, the man identified as Sam Bahri, did get violent. Bahri asked to shake one of the deputy’s hands and when the deputy reached out, Bahri stabbed the deputy on the top of his left hand with a five inch nail.

Bahri then started throwing large metal objects at the deputies almost hitting them in the head.

Bahri also threw a metal object at a deputy who was hiding behind a trailer.

Deputies were finally able to stop Bahri by using a taser twice, but Bahri continued to fight them on the ground as they tried to put handcuffs on him.

Two deputies were hurt on the call, but have been treated and are back at work.

Sam Bahri was taken to the hospital to be evaluated and then booked into the Monterey County Jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
