Mom, son killed by snow falling from condo roof

UPDATE: 3/6/2018 9:30 a.m. A 7-year-old boy killed along with his mother when snow buried them outside their Northern California mountain condo was a first grade student in San Francisco.

French American International School spokeswoman Keelee Wrenn confirmed Tuesday that Aaron Goodstein was a student there. She said the school has grief counselors on campus.

Authorities say the child and his 50-year-old mother, Olga Perkovic, were returning from a day of skiing Sunday when a trailer-sized chunk of snow fell on them.

The mother and son were found under 3 feet of snow after a neighbor spotted some ski gloves next to the home. They were pronounced dead at a hospital.

They were the third and fourth skiers to die at California resorts since a major snowstorm last week.

The Alpine County Sheriff’s Department says 50-year-old Olga Perkovic of San Francisco and her son were returning from a day of skiing Sunday when a trailer-sized chunk of snow fell on them.

Rescuers had searched the nearby Kirkwood Ski Resort for hours because the two had boarded a lift that afternoon.

The mother and son were found under 3 feet of snow after a neighbor spotted some ski gloves next to the home. They were pronounced dead at a hospital.

They were the third and fourth to die skiers at California resorts since a major snowstorm late last week.
