Monterey County Rape Crisis Center looking for volunteers
The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center needs the public’s help. The agency is looking for volunteers to support victims of sexual assault
Twice a year, the Rape Crisis Center hosts trainings for those who want to volunteer. The center is looking for as many people as possible and volunteers will be trained to answer the 24 hour crisis hotline, go to forensic exams with survivors and help raise awareness about the organization.
From Hollywood to Capitol Hill, sexual assault allegations have taken down prominent figures in entertainment, sports, politics and more.
And the #metoo campaign has turned something victims had long kept in the dark into a national movement.
Staff say at the center they saw an uptick in reports but it’s unclear whether that’s entirely a result of the changes in the national discourse.
“It’s very hard to say. I think our numbers have gone up a bit, but we also have a new tracking system in place. So we are better able to actually make notes when people call, and make sure that we are capturing all of those folks who are reaching out to us,” says Executive Director Clare Mounteer.
Advocate training begins march 17th. You can find more details by clicking here.
KION’s Linda Zhang will have more at 5 and 6.
