Salinas police investigate stabbing that took place in front of a church

Officers said they responded to the Shell gas station on 417 N. Main St. in Salinas when the victim of an assault called for an ambulance Saturday about 12:45 a.m.

The 30 year-old victim told police he was jumped by four men as he walked in front of the First United Methodist Church on Lincoln Avenue.

Police said the victim had a stab wound to his back but it did not appear to be life-threatening. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment

The victim described the suspects as Hispanic men wearing black and red clothing.
