Rental scam suspect arrested in Santa Cruz County
A man is behind bars accused of conning people out of thousands of dollars in a rental scam.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect, Aaron Kiefer, stole from at least five people totaling several thousand dollars.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, over the past two months, Kiefer had been advertising an Aptos area home for rent, but Kiefer was just living in the home and did not own the home. Future renters would send him money to rent the property and Kiefer would then deposit the money and cancel the new lease without returning the funds.
