Officers in Scotts Valley taking protect and serve to another level at Tip-A-Cop event.

The Scotts Valley Police Department held the fundraiser at Bruno’s BBQ in Scotts Valley on Friday where they helped take orders and serve customers. Customers also had the option to leave tips for the officers, that money goes to the Northern California Special Olympics to help athletes and their families pay for training and competitions. 300 of those athletes are in Santa Cruz County.

Officer John Hohmann helps organize the fundraisers, he says the athletes are like family to the department, “It all goes to special Olympics Northern California which provides year round training athletic competition for all the athletes at no cost to them or their families.”

Some of the athletes at the event today say they’ve earned hundreds of medals through the Special Olympics and are very thankful for the departments help, “Scotts Valley Police gives their time up every year to help us.”

The department raised close to $100,000 each year through different fundraisers. The next event is the Polar Plunge being held at Del Mar Beach on March 10th.
