Suspect ditches handgun while being pulled over by Salinas Police
In an attempt to ditch a firearm, a suspect threw his handgun out the window while being pulled over by Salinas Police.
According to police, around midnight Monday, officers with the Violence Suppression Unit and Patrol Directed Enforcement Detail tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation. The driver of the car didn’t pull over until he got to the area of North Main at Boronda.
“As the vehicle approached the overpass with 101, the vehicle came to a stop. A high-risk stop was conducted, and the passenger was observed throwing a handgun out of the passenger window onto the freeway,” said Salinas Police.
The gun didn’t make it onto the highway and officers recovered the handgun in a nearby grass area.
The driver was identified as 27-year-old David Villicana and the passenger was 20-year-old Miguel Medina. Officers found Villicana in possession of 8 grams of methamphetamine.
The Patrol Directed Enforcement Detail also spotted registered gang member, Oscar Lemus in a vehicle with a known parolee which is a violation of Lemus’ probation terms.
Villicana, Medina and Lemus were booked into Monterey County Jail on several charges.
