Whalefest underway at Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey
Whalefest kicked off Saturday at Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey.
More than 40 organizations and 100 volunteers from around the Central Coast teamed up to make the two day festival happen.
There are marine life experts, activities, music and a crowd favorite, the 43 foot blow up whale you can walk inside.
“My favorite thing is the whale I went in,” said seven-year-old Madeline.
“I’ve seen a movie about saving sea animals and I really wanted to do that,” said six-year-old Emma.
“It’s all meant to be dressed up to look like fun, but the whole thing is about education and most of all to empower people with that ability to change things and make things happen,” explained Mary Alice Cerrito Fettis, Chair of Whalefest.
Roughly 15,000 people are expected to attend the event over the weekend. The event starts at 10 a.m. Sunday and goes until 5 p-m. It is free to attend.
