Investigation reveals Salinas restaurant served alcohol to minor killed in crash

A restaurant in Salinas will have its alcohol license suspended after an investigation revealed the business sold beer to a minor who died in a car crash.

According to the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), starting Thursday, Tacos Acambaro located at 631 East Alvin Drive will have its alcoholic beverage license suspended for 30 days.

“Effective immediately the business is prohibited from selling or serving alcoholic beverages until the suspension period is over,” said ABC officials.

An investigation revealed that 20-year-old Abraham Requena and several others under the age of 21 were served or allowed to drink beer at Tacos Acambaro. A criminal case has been filed against restaurant manager, 44-year-old Fernando Hernandez and waitress, 31-year-old Ashley Cadena for selling alcohol to minors.

Requena bought alcohol late January 29 or early January 30, 2017. After leaving he died in a solo car crash.

Salinas Police said he had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
