Seaside Police arrest hit-and-run suspect after license plate falls off at scene

A 24-year-old woman was arrested for leaving the scene after hitting a motorcyclist in Seaside.

Officers responded to a hit-and-run in the 1300 block of Del Monte Blvd on January 19 around 6:56 p.m. A motorcyclist was traveling north on Del Monte Blvd and was broadsided by a car turning left in its path.

“The victim was flung from the motorcycle and suffered traumatic injuries to his leg,” said Seaside PD.

As the suspect left the scene, the car’s license plate fell off and stayed at the crash site.

Seaside Police were able to identify the suspect as Laura Monserrat Zavala. Her 2005 Toyota Tundra was located in Salinas with damage and evidence consistent to the crash.

Zavala was arrested and charged with Felony Hit and Run. Investigators don’t know if Zavala was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
