SPD SWAT 6-hour standoff ends with arrest

One man is now behind bars after a multi-hour standoff in Salinas late Sunday night.

It happened in East Salinas on Connelly court. On Sunday evening 40-year old Shawn Salinas barricaded himself inside the home. Shawn had a warrant for domestic violence and shoplifting. After six hours the standoff ended around 11:30 PM after SPD SWAT found him hiding in the attic.

“The SWAT team ordered the man (Shawn Salinas) to surrender and when he continued to resist the team placed chemical agents into his hiding place,” said Salinas Police.

Salinas was removed through the ceiling and arrested. He was booked into Monterey County Jail.

According to SPD, Shawn Salinas is a known gang member.
