Seaside man arrested after month on the run

A Seaside man is behind bars after evading police for more than a month.

Seaside Police said officers tried pulling over 21-year-old Salvatore Ciolino on December 9th for a vehicle code violation as he was hauling a motorcycle in the bed, but Ciolino refused to stop. He then led officers on a chase that reached speeds of up to 89 mph, running red lights and driving into opposite lanes of traffic.

Officers were forced to end the chase because of the dangerous conditions.

On December 20th, police spotted Ciolino’s car in the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant on Fremont Street in Seaside and attempted a traffic stop on him, but Ciolino once again took off leading officers on another dangerous chase.

About a week later, an officer saw Ciolino commit a traffic violation at the intersection of Canyon Del Rey and Sonoma Avenue, but Ciolino took off again when the officer tried to pull him over. Then, on December 29th, Ciolino was spotted at the Walmart on Beach Road in Marina. Marina Police were notified that a reckless dirt-bike style motorcycle was driving on the sidewalk nearby and close to where Ciolino’s car was parked. The motorcycle matched the description of the bike being hauled in the back of Ciolino’s car.

Officers tried to pull Ciolino over on the motorcycle, but he drove off.

On January 8, 2018, Ciolino was spotted driving on Reservation Road in Marina once again. He refused to pull over for officers again and led police on another dangerous chase on Highway 1.

Two days later, PRVNT, with the help of Seaside Police, Marina Police, Monterey Police, and the Multi Agency Detail for Commercial Auto Theft (MADCAT) Investigators from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol were searching for Ciolino.

They found him at his home on Mira Monte in Seaside and tried to contact him. Ciolino took off and jumped into the backyard of a house on Santa Clara. He then forced his way into the garage and stole a car parked inside. Ciolino crashed the car through the closed garage doors and was able to escape.

On January 11th, officers found Ciolino in a parked car on Hermitage in Pebble Beach. Officers surrounded him and arrested him. A stolen car was found in the driveway.

Ciolino was booked into the Monterey County Jail for nine misdemeanor and two felony warrants along with charges of residential burglary, auto theft, felony vandalism, committing a felony while out on bail, obstructing a peace officer, driving on a suspended license, and multiple counts of felony evasion of a peace officer.
