A Seaside man has pled guilty to killing the mother of his two children in 2016.
According to the Monterey County District Attorney, 46-year-old Hai Long Tran entered a guilty plea to second degree murder on Friday for the death of Hong Ngoc Nguyen.
On April 14, 2016, Seaside Police responded to Kenneth Street where they found Nguyen’s body upstairs with severe head wounds that appeared to be caused from being bludgeoned with a lamp. The coroner determined she was strangled as well as had suffered 21 blows to the head causing several skull fractures.
Through the investigation, officers learned she had been at the courthouse applying for a restraining order earlier in the day. She had said Tran was stalking her and she feared for her life.
Nguyen also contacted a family law lawyer in San Jose on April 1, 2016 to help with the restraining order and on April 9, she took her car to a local service center where the technician found a GPS device which Nguyen took to the Seaside Police Department.
After her death, investigators found a second GPS device on her car as well as two video surveillance cameras in her bedroom.
Evidence was also found on Tran’s cell phone to prove he was tracking her whereabouts.
Tran will be sentenced on February 27th to 15 years to life in prison.
Nguyen and Tran had two children together ages 15 and 18.
