CHP: 18-year-old passenger dead after car crashed down an embankment in Santa Cruz mountains identified
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) UPDATE Mar 31th, 2022 at 2:48 p.m.--The deceased passenger of a car crash in the Santa Cruz mountains has been identified.
18-year-old Carlton Keegan was the passenger that died inside a 2006 Subaru that drove off an embankment and crashed into a tree near the 300 block of Granite Creek Road on Wednesday, according to CHP.
The 18-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

UPDATE Mar 30th, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.-- A 17-year-old male passenger from Scotts Valley is dead after a car flew off an embankment near the 300 block of Granite Creek Road around 3:41 p.m. according to CHP.
An 18-year-old male driver was going northbound in a 2004 Subaru Outback on Granite Creek Road and for an unknown reason veered off the road, into an embankment and hit a tree.
The driver sustained minor injuries and the passenger was taken to Dominican Hospital with major injuries.
The passenger later died from their injuries at the hospital.
CHP said they are investigating if drugs or alcohol were involved. Authorities added no arrests are being made at this time.

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (KION-TV)-- CHP said that both lanes are closed near the 300 block of Granite Creek Road after a car flew off the embankment at around 3:41 p.m.
The vehicle landed on its roof and the driver suffered major injuries but a coroner was not called according to CHP.
Crews have been sent to make repairs on the gravel that was damaged in the area.
