Shoplifter leads deputies on New Years Eve bicycle chase

A shoplifter was busted stealing champagne and party props from a Safeway in Aptos New Years weekend.

The suspect, Tyler Luttrell’s party plans were cut short when deputies with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, spotted him making a getaway on a bicycle. The theft occurred early Sunday morning on December 31.

Luttrell led Deputy Renwick on a chase for a few blocks.

“Deputy Renwick with assistance from Deputy Kenville spoiled the party and apprehended Tyler,” said the Sheriff’s Office.

Luttrell was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on theft charges, evading and a warrant that was out for his arrest.
