Dorothy’s place set to serve more than 800 this Thanksgiving
Dorothy’s Place, in the heart of Chinatown, will once again provide their annual Thanksgiving meal Thursday. It brings in people from all over — people in need of a warm holiday meal. Get this, they’ll serve fifty 20-pound turkeys, 350 pounds of mashed potatoes, and 37 pans of stuffing. Executive director Jill Allen said the meal is not possible without the help of many volunteers.
“We do it because we love the people we serve out here and they’re all missing their own families and so this is something we want to do so they feel like they have family on the block,” said Executive Director Jill Allen.
When they are not feeding the homeless, Dorothy’s Place is busy trying to get people off the streets. The program is called “Streets to Home.” Its aim is to convince people that a better life is possible. Over the last year, they have helped quite a few get into an apartment or reunited with family.
The free meal at Dorothy’s Place will run from 12PM-2PM.
