Gilroy man sentenced for deadly DUI crash
A Gilroy man learned his punishment for a DUI crash that killed a King City woman in 2016.
According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, 32-year-old Drew Elliot Trantow-Pearson was sentenced to five years and four months in prison. He will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
On February 28, 2016, Trantow-Pearson was driving on Highway 198 south of Pine Valley Road when he swerved into another lane and hit a family’s car. The man driving the car had fractured ribs and other minor injuries. A one-year-old child had minor injuries, but a woman who was in the front seat, died.
Trantow-Pearson was found to be under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of .21, almost three times the legal limit.
The victim, 25-year-old Aracely Tamayo Rangel, was a resident of King City.
