Sea lion rescue near Seacliff State Beach
A sick sea lion was rescued at a beach in Aptos Sunday afternoon. A crew from the Marine Mammal Center captured the ailing sea lion with a large net and maneuvered it into a lcrate.
A rescuer said the California sea lion was underweight and clearly sick and would be tested to find out exactly what was wrong. The 5-6 foot sea lion was taken to the Marine Mammal Center’s Monterey Bay operations at Moss Landing where it would be treated and stabilized. The sea lion is expected to be transferred to the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito on Monday.
The rescue took place at Potbelly Beach between New Brighton State Beach and Seacliff State Beach.
