Thousands came out for the 7th Annual Salinas Veterans Day Parade on Saturday.

Organizers were expecting this years parade to be the biggest yet, and crowds did not disappoint. City Council member Steve McShane estimated close to 20,000 people came to the event. With more than 100 entries for the parade.

The celebration started at Salinas High School, went down Main Street and ended at the Steinbeck Center. McShane says this event is one that is close to his heart, “I come from a family that has served for years, and I have to say today’s event hits home. It really hits home personally for my grandfather and for cousins and men and women that have served.”

McShane also says this is a day for the community to show that they are behind the men and women who sacrifice their lives for this Country. “This is a opportunity for the public to really signal that freedom isn’t free,” says McShane.
