Firefighters battling the Bear Fire during heatwave

The heatwave is creating some challenges for crews battling the Bear Fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The warmer temperatures have been especially tough for hand crews often wearing heavy gear while trying to dig out containment lines.

Cal fire says it is key to make sure firefighters have plenty of water and lots of calories.

Despite the challenges, Cal fire still believes they will have the fire contained by Thursday. Right now the Bear Fire has burned through 391 acres of land and is 90 percent contained.

“We had to push it out a little bit because of the weather because of the heat and the winds that we had last night just to make sure we are getting all of those hot spots and mopping it up thoroughly and to keep those containment lines secure,” said Cal Fire Division Chief Angela Bernheisel.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause.
