Early morning fire causes significant damage to Salinas restaurant

Golden China restaurant in Salinas will likely be closed a while, after a fire leaves significant damage.

The call came in around 6 Thursday morning and when firefighters arrived, they noticed a garbage can was on fire near the back of the building and fire was spreading into the restaurant.

The fire was quickly brought under control, however there was an estimated $25,000-$50,000 worth of damage done.

Officials are investigating what was placed in the garbage can to cause the fire.

The restaurant cannot open again until repairs are made as the electrical system has been damaged and there is a lot of smoke damage inside.
