Felton Man arrested for assaulting a Sergeant

A Sergeant with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office was punched in the face after responding to a call for a car break in.

According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, around 5:44 p.m. Thursday, the sergeant contacted 27-year-old Shane Braden of Felton near 7th Avenue and Soquel Avenue in Santa Cruz. Braden punched the sergeant in the face without warning causing him to fall back and strike his head on the pavement.

The Sheriff’s Office said, the 27-year-old ran towards Harbor High School. Deputies and officers from the Santa Cruz and Watsonville Police Departments as well as the Highway Patrol responded to the area.

Braden was found under the bleachers at Harbor High.

The suspect was arrested and found to have a felony warrant. Braden faces charges for battery on a peace officer, possessing drug paraphernalia, and probation violation.
