Hazardous conditions expected at Central Coast beaches
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous beach warning for the entire coastline of Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties.
A long period southwesterly swell will arrive late Thursday. At the same time, a northwesterly swell of 5 feet will be present. The combination of the two swells will lead to hazardous conditions at area beaches starting Thursday through at least Saturday evening.
There is an increased risk of rip currents, sneaker waves, and locally large surf break. Beach goers may be knocked over, injured, or pulled out into the cold ocean.
