UPDATE: Santa Cruz Police identify Monday’s homicide victim

UPDATE: 10/3/2017 4:03 p.m. Santa Cruz Police identified Monday’s homicide victim as, 36-year-old Samuel Isais Marroquin of Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz PD said, detectives continue to follow up on video surveillance in the area and are searching for additional information and evidence.

Santa Cruz police are investigating a homicide after a body was found near San Lorenzo River Levee and Broadway Bridge late Monday night.

Officers were flagged down in the area around 10:15 p.m. and found an unconscious unidentified Hispanic male with several gunshot wounds to the head and body.

Police and paramedics tried to render first aid but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A search of the area led to officers locating several bullet casings.

A motive is currently unknown.

The investigation is ongoing.
