Man speeds on Florida beach and streams it online
A frightening scene on a popular Florida beach. Police chased a driver speeding across the sand nearly hitting several families.
The driver Ryan Stiles, broadcasted his high-speed chase with Clearwater Police on Facebook. Hundreds of families were put in fear.
“A black SUV jeep came by at least 45, 50 miles an hour, fishtailing,” said one beachgoer.
The driver also recorded himself drinking alcohol behind the wheel.
Jeff Vance said “It was nuts. We had a couple of little girls with us and they were scared half to death.”
Police said the chase started after Stiles’ reportedly threatened to take out a Clearwater Police cruiser during a previous Facebook live.
Stiles jumped a curb and sped onto the beach from Papaya Street.
“I grabbed my dog thinking that they were coming here and then I saw the cops and the cars coming down the beach really fast,” said beachgoer, Jackie Livingston.
The Livingston’s quiet beach day in Clearwater quickly turned chaotic.
Norm Livingston said, “Absolutely put hundreds and hundreds of people in danger.”
The dangerous beach drive lasted nearly ten minutes.
Stiles said on his Facebook live, “My transmission just went out guys. I’m going down, I’m going down, I’m going down.”
The police chase ended two miles away on Caladesi Island.
“We were very, extremely fortunate that we didn’t lose any officers, nor did we lose any civilians,” said Deputy Chief Donald Hall.
No one was hurt in the chase. The 27-year-old driver faces numerous charges including driving under the influence.
