Firefighters put out fire at Salinas apartment complex

Firefighters put out a fire at an apartment complex in Salinas Tuesday night on Lunsford Drive near Natividad Road.

Neighbors initially reported a building on fire, but video from the scene shows what may be a carport burned.

Salinas firefighters later confirmed a carport was destroyed and a building next door to the fire was damaged forcing residents from their home for the night. Four cars were also destroyed.

The fire started around 5 p.m. and crews were able to quickly put out the flames.

No one was hurt.

According to the Salinas Fire Department, there were reports of kids playing with fireworks in the area, but the cause is still under investigation.
