The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk opens two new rides

After 18 months in development, two new rides have opened at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Typhoon throws passengers 60 feet into the air, flips them over and suspends them upside down before returning to an upright position. Meanwhile, Shockwave is a perpetually spinning disk that lifts passengers into the air while they remain fastened into seats lining the disk’s perimeter.

The rides opened on July 1st-just in time for Fourth of July activities!-and have undergone a “comprehensive and thorough state inspection” according to Kris Reyes, a spokesperson for the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Additionally, The Fright Walk and The Lazer Maze underwent renovations.

The opening of two new rides and renovating of two previously existing rides comes as part of a $14 million construction project.
