Driver dies in fiery crash on Highway 1
According to the California Highway Patrol, a car lost control heading northbound on Highway 1 and hit the center divide just north of 41st avenue.
The accident happened Saturday around 3:26 a.m. The driver was in a 2017 Toyota Rav 4. After the Toyota hit a center divide it went across the northbound lanes and guardrail and hit a tree.
The car caught fire upon impact. CHP said there was only one person in the car. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The freeway was closed for about 4 hours.
Investigators are still trying to figure out if the driver was under the influence.
At this time the identity of the driver is not available.
