Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived soon after the firefighters, and with information they obtained at the scene, they were able to locate and arrest Salvador Contreras in connection with the fire which eventually grew to at least 10,000 square feet, according to a press release from Monterey County Regional Fire District.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading out of carton yard. T&A workers also used forklifts to move unburned pallets and carton bundles away from the fire, the press release said. No buildings were damaged.
The fire was contained by about 10 p.m last night but smoke was still visible throughout the night and into Saturday.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said Salvador Contreras has been taken into custody for arson.
