UPDATE: Investigators looking for suspect who called in bomb threat
UPDATE 5/25/2017 6 p.m.: A lunchtime lockdown at North Monterey County High School on Thursday, after an anonymous caller told dispatchers there was a bomb on campus.
“It happened at lunch,” said Kari Yeater, superintendent of North Monterey County Unified School District. “So students went back to their fourth period class and with their teachers went out into the field. We worked with our sheriff’s deputies to just assess what was happening. They searched our campus, cleared it. Kids are returning to lunch, then we are going back to class.”
As for the caller who phoned in the threat, authorities are looking for the person responsible.
This is the second time a bomb threat has been called at the school this year. The first was in March when several schools across Monterey County received threats.
Students knew what to do because of the previous pranks and practiced exercises.
“They do practice drills and they do check and make sure everyone is where they are supposed to be, at their assigned place and everybody takes roll so that you know that you’ve got all your students so everybody is accounted for,” Tom Forgette said.
UPDATE 5/25/2017 2:06 p.m. Evacuation lifted at North Monterey County High School. Superintendent said threat came in at lunch. Everyone was cleared from the campus. Students are now getting an extended lunch then going back to class.
