Inmate found guilty of attacking another inmate in Monterey County Jail
A Monterey County Jail inmate has been found guilty of battery.
According to the Monterey County District Attorney, 30-year-old Cory Jon Lee Lanite led a group of four inmates in an attack on another inmate at the jail on April 3, 2017.
The Seaside man and the other inmates forced the victim out of his bunk and told him to leave the housing wing. Lanite then waited near a secured entrance to the wing while the victim was escorted to that entrance. Lanite repeatedly punched the victim when he got to the secure entrance. The other four inmates also joined in on the attack.
Lanite refused to listen to law enforcement when he was told to drop to the ground.
Lanite will be sentenced on May 26, 2017. He faces up to one year in jail. The other four inmates involved have all pled guilty.
