Caltrans sending construction equipment to Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge

Starting Tuesday Caltrans will be delivering construction equipment and materials to the site of the demolished Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge on Highway 1.

Convoys will be escorted by the California Highway Patrol via Nacimiento-Fergusson Road from US Highway 101 also on Thursday, May 18.

Drivers who plan to travel eastbound towards Highway 101 will be held at State Route 1 until the convoys pass.

Caltrans reminds drivers to move over and slow down when traveling through highway work zones. The convoys will transport two concrete boom pumps, two mobile mixers and a Vactor truck. Caltrans said the equipment will be used to construct concrete abutments for the new bridge.

The steel girders for the new bridge are being made at a plant in Vallejo, Ca. Once the girders are ready, they will be moved to a plant near Stockton for painting before they are shipped to the Pfeiffer Canyon site.

The $24 million project is expected to be open to the public by late September.
