A Watsonville man learned his punishment for driving under influence with three prior DUI convictions.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, 54-year-old Francisco Napoles Medina was convicted on April 11, 2017 of felony driving under the influence with those three prior convictions, two of which were also felonies. The jury also found that he has served four prior prison terms for DUI.

Medina was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison.

Court and law enforcement records show he has at least 12 prior DUI convictions in all.

The incident that led to his sentence happened on July 23, 2016. He was swerving on Alta Street in Gonzales. He then refused to comply with field sobriety tests, a breath test and blood tests when officers asked. Officers authored a search warrant for Medina’s blood which showed his blood alcohol was .171 four hours after driving.
