Local amusement park hiring for 1,200 positions at job fair
Whether it was their first high school job or they’re a seasoned professional, people of all ages and backgrounds looked for part and full time work at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
“I wanted to get a job for evenings, so I could have two jobs while I’m working the day and working the night,” said Luke Issa, who got hired.
Job seekers were able to fill out an application, snag an interview and get hired on the spot.
“Pretty fast, you go in and out,” said Felicia Ramirez, who was hired on the spot. “They ask you a few questions, especially about your availability and what you think good customer service is.”
The Human Resource Department told KION they’re hiring for anything from ride operators to food services and maintenance.
“We want people interacting with our guests, fun, friendly,” said Sabra Reyes, Director of Human Resources for Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. “People that love to be around other people.”
According to Labor Department figures, the unemployment rate dropped to 4.4 percent in April, the lowest in a decade. Which could mean it may be harder for employers to get new hires through the door now that a lot more people already have jobs.
“The nature of our business is always competitive,” said Reyes. “We offer a lot of opportunities for people here. Not only opportunities to get hired but also opportunities to grow in their career.”
Jobs seekers said the boardwalk also has another thing many other companies can not quite compete with.
“It’s nice, the rides, the beach, nice weather,” said Ramirez.
The hiring fair will continue Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
