Boronda Road widening project moving forward

The City of Salinas now has the funds it needs to move forward with the Boronda Road widening project. This project has been in the works for over ten years. With the passage of Monterey County’s Measure x, and SB-1, the City can put in four roundabouts between Independence and McKinnon. Plans also call for an additional lane in each direction.

“Boronda Road traffic wise is already at Level E during a couple hours of day, which is the worse level there is. We need to mitigate that. Existing needs to be worked on as it is, but once those new housing comes in it will only make things worse, so we’ve set out to take on this long standing project,” said Public Works Director Gary Peterson.

Once the design is approved by City Council, the plan is to break ground in spring of 2018.

A public meeting will be held Wednesday night at McKinnon School from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
