Former Soledad HS teacher sentenced for having sex with student

UPDATE 5/2/17: A former Soledad High School Teacher has been sentenced to nine months in county jail for having sex with a student.

According to Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo, Alexander Luna Salazar was also sentenced to a three grant of felony probation, lifetime sex registration and sexual offender treatment.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim, stay 100 yards away from the perimeter of Soledad High, not be alone with any child under the age of 18 unless another responsible adult is present, cannot possess electronic password protected devices, and must submit to a search of any electronic devices when asked by law enforcement or a probation officer.

The judge told Salazar at the sentencing hearing that he failed at the greatest responsibility bestowed upon a teacher. He not only took advantage of a student’s trust, but violated the trust every parent has when they entrust their greatest gifts, their children, to the care of a teacher.

PREVIOUS STORY:
Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo said Soledad High School teacher Alexander Luna Salazar entered a plea of no contest to having sex with a student during the 2015-2016 school year.

Salazar entered pleas of no contest to two felony charges of unlawful intercourse with a minor and contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense.

The DA says Salazar, a resident of Greenfield, contacted the female student, 17, to commit a sexual offense and on 30 April 2016 brought the same student to his home in Greenfield, California where he proceeded to have unlawful sexual intercourse with the teenager.

The Soledad Unified School District learned of the teacher’s relationship with the student and contacted the Soledad Police Department who assisted the Greenfield Police Department with the investigation.

The District Attorney’s Digital Evidence Forensic Investigator Natalie Dill, uncovered text messages from the victim’s phone to corroborate the relationship between Salazar and the student.

Judge Julie R. Culver will render sentence on May 2, 2017, when the defendant will be placed on a grant of felony probation, be ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and will serve up to 365 days in the county jail.
